Manama, June 24 (BNA): President of the Supreme Health Council Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa underlined the importance of the National Health Plan 2016-2025. He pointed out therapeutic tourism as a key national initiative on its agenda, urging to take advantage of Bahrain's distinguished medical capabilities to boost the kingdom's standing on the tourism map by providing advanced medical services at competitive prices.
Lt. General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa was speaking as he patronised today the opening of Bahrain Medical Investment and Therapeutic Tourism Conference and Exhibition. A total of 200 participants representing 25 public and private health establishments are taking part in the two-day event.
The Supreme Health Council President extended heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier for their directives and unflinching support to the health sector. He described the conference as an opportunity to shed light on the national initiatives to boost the health sector, pointing out mainly the National Health Insurance Programme which aims to further optimise health services. He stressed the Supreme Health Council's keenness on ensuring sustainability of health services, attracting medical investments and promoting the kingdom's status on the map of therapeutic tourism. He also underscored the kingdom's efforts to ensure comprehensive development of the health services system in tune with the leadership's directives, the Government's Action Plan and the goals of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
In a speech delivered on behalf of Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al Saleh, Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Walid Al Mena'a underlined Bahrain's efforts to stimulate the private sector to invest in the health field and contribute to improving services. He also pointed out keenness to turn Bahrain into a regional destination for therapeutic tourism through an ambitious vision to achieve a comprehensive health system.
For her part, Chief Executive of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) Dr. Meriam Adhbi Jalahma underscored the kingdom's advanced medical sector and the potentials it has to promote therapeutic tourism.
Lt. General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa paid a visit to the associated exhibition in which 25 parties from the public and private sectors, King Abdullah Medical City and the Arabian Gulf University are taking part.
